Richase at ICIF China 2026: Focusing on Magnesium Oxide and Magnesium Sulphate for Global Applications

The 23rd China International Chemical Industry Fair (ICIF China 2026) ran from September 15 to 17, 2026 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). Organized by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and co-organized by the CCPIT Chemical Industry Sub-Council and the China National Chemical Information Center, the fair carries the theme “Toward New and Superior: A New Chemical Journey” and serves as the core engine of China Petrochemical Industry Week. Together with its sister events the week covered more than 150,000 square meters and drew over 2,400 participating companies, while the fair itself recorded more than 80,000 professional visits, with international buyers pre-registered from 110 countries and regions.

Ten themed zones stretched across the halls: energy and petrochemicals, basic chemicals, chemical new materials, fine chemicals, safety and environmental protection, packaging and storage, engineering and equipment, digital and intelligent manufacturing, reagents and laboratory equipment, and scientific achievements and services. Richase exhibited at Booth E6F70 under a stand banner carrying the two product families at the heart of this year’s show: magnesium oxide and magnesium sulphate. One wall introduced the magnesium oxide line, from caustic calcined magnesia to high purity grades for hydrometallurgy, while the facing wall displayed the full magnesium sulphate range in crystal, granular and powder form.

Over the three days the team hosted a steady stream of visitors: fertilizer traders comparing water-soluble grades, feed producers checking heavy-metal limits, and mining engineers asking about nickel and cobalt precipitation. Every conversation ended the same way, with samples, specifications and a follow-up plan.

The magnesium oxide wall presented the complete Richase portfolio. Caustic Calcined Magnesia (CCM) was shown in powder form at 60%–95% MgO (200 mesh, 0.1–1.5 mm) and in granular form at 60% and 65% MgO (2–5 mm) for fertilizer, feed and construction uses. Dead Burned Magnesia (DBM) covered powder at 90%–95% MgO in 200 and 325 mesh, plus lump and crushed material from 0 to 50 mm, the workhorse grades for refractory bricks, kiln linings and abrasives.

The centerpiece was High Purity Magnesium Oxide (HPMO) with MgO content of 95% or more, CaO below 1.3% and SiO2 below 0.5%, milled to 325 mesh with reactivity inside 15 seconds. This was the grade that drew the most technical questions at the booth: it is engineered for efficient nickel and cobalt recovery in hydrometallurgical precipitation, a market growing quickly with the battery supply chain. Visitors also learned how the same high reactivity improves flue gas desulfurization and acidic wastewater neutralization.

Opposite the magnesia wall, the magnesium sulphate display showed how wide one salt family can stretch. Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate (Epsom salt) came in 98%, 99% and 99.5% purity with crystal sizes from 0.1–1 mm up to 4–7 mm, plus 2–5 mm compacted granular for blending. Magnesium Sulphate Monohydrate, better known as kieserite, was exhibited as powder at W.MgO 20%, 23% and 25% min and as kieserite granular in natural, off-white and colored versions for compound fertilizer lines. The anhydrous range closed the wall with 100% water-soluble powder and granular for tank-mix and drip systems.

Visitors from water-soluble fertilizer blenders spent the longest time here, comparing dissolution speed between heptahydrate and anhydrous grades and asking about colored granules for visual identification in NPK blends.

Magnesium sits at the center of every chlorophyll molecule, which makes magnesium sulphate one of the most direct corrections for magnesium-deficient soils. Heptahydrate grades dissolve fast for foliar sprays and fertigation, while kieserite granular releases more slowly and suits acidic and sandy soils where a longer nutrient window is needed. Both fit smoothly into NPK compound formulas, and water-soluble monohydrate is increasingly requested for drip irrigation in greenhouse vegetables and fruit crops.

Mining visitors focused on the hydrometallurgy side. High purity MgO is used to precipitate nickel and cobalt from laterite leach solutions, and its buffered alkalinity raises pH without the local over-dosing that lime can cause. The same chemistry treats mine tailings: acidic effluent is neutralized while heavy metals are captured as hydroxides.

Booth E6F70 welcomed traders and producers from Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Recurring questions included moisture control during ocean shipping, OEM packaging with private labels, and lead times for 25 kg bags versus jumbo sacks. The team quoted directly from the specification sheets on the walls and booked lab samples for the weeks ahead.
